Ingredients

  • 5 medium apples, peeled and sliced I used a mix of Granny Smith and Gala
  • 1 cup unbleached all purpose flour 125 g
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar, packed 200 g
  • ½ cup old fashioned oats 50 g
  • cup finely chopped walnuts 35 g
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon 4 g
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 8 tablespoons salted butter, softened or melted 114 g

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉.

  2. Spread the apple slices into an uncreased 10 inch cast iron skillet or baking pan. Set aside.

  3. Mix the remaining ingredients with a fork (or spoon), and sprinkle over the apples.

  4. Bake uncovered until the topping is deeply golden brown, and apples are tender, about 35-40 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla bean ice cream.

Recipe Notes

I made very minor changes to the original recipe (I added an extra apple and salt) and slightly increased the amount of flour in the topping.
